Catskill Crew #064

This week in the Catskills

Quest: The Best Burger

My fellow Crew members, I need your help…

I’m embarking on a noble and daring quest to uncover the absolute best burger in the Catskills. This isn’t just a mission; it’s a calling - a destiny I’ve been preparing for my entire life.

But I can’t do it alone. I need your expertise. Where should I start? Who’s grilling the juiciest patties, toasting the most perfect buns, and topping it all off with unforgettable flavors? From roadside diners to gastropubs, or even a hidden gem you’ve sworn to keep secret until now - no burger is off limits.

The winner will be christened and receive the coveted Burger Trophy. Let us begin the Great Burger Quest of the Catskills! Stay tuned as I report back on my findings.

Chugability Report: Winter Negroni

It’s cold out there so here's something to warm your bones. A bit of a winter spin on the classic Negroni we all know and love.

What You'll Need: 1 oz each: London Dry Gin, Campari, Sweet Vermouth, fresh rosemary sprig, orange peel, 2 dashes orange bitters, and one big ice cube

The Move: Clap that rosemary between your palms to wake up the oils, stir everything (except that garnish) with ice for 30 seconds, pour over your big cube, hit it with an orange peel twist, and drop in the rosemary.

Pro tip: Let the rosemary hang out in your gin for 24 hours if you're feeling fancy. Trust the process.

Night Sky: Venus

Mark your calendars for January 9th - Venus is hitting peak visibility as our "Evening Star." Take a gander west after sunset and you can't miss her blazing bright in the sky until about 8:40 PM.

Trivia: Green Gold

What Catskill native plant was so valuable in the 1800s it was known as "green gold"?

Adopt Pets: Brandi & Adele

Meet our dog of the week, Brandi, a 7-year-old pittie with charm and a couch-potato-to-adventure ratio that we honestly respect. While she'd rather be your one and only (no other pets, please), this "Pretty Girl," as they call her at the shelter, lives for sniffing walks and quality cuddle time with humans of any age. Our cat of the week is Adele, a short hair dilute torti (I have no idea what that means) who carries herself with such elegance you'd think she was named after British royalty rather than a pop star. Though she starts off playing hard to get, she quickly transforms into a certified attention enthusiast once she's comfortable, making her a perfect companion for other cats and older children.
