Catskill Crew Newsletter ☃️

Weekly Breakdown

Happy Monday 🏔️

December 18th

Events can change, because things happen and I’m not perfect…

Hopefully, everyone is staying dry with all this rain. We have some good stuff for you this week in addition to our regular programming, so without further ado, let’s dive right into it.

P.S. Thanks for continuing to share the Catskill Crew Newsletter.

Artist Spotlight 🔦

The Catskills are home to some truly brilliant and creative people, so we thought we’d use this space to highlight some of our local talent more often.

Today, we’re excited to shine a light on the man, the myth, the legend, and friend to all the fish, Steven Weinberg.

“I paint the mountains that surround me and the fish I catch. Some days I fool myself into thinking I'm a modern day Thomas Cole. Some days I feel like I should be Bob Ross' understudy. Every day I feel pretty lucky that I get to be up here and watch the light change day to day.”

Steven Weinberg is a writer, illustrator, and painter. His work has appeared everywhere, from books to West Kill Brewery beer cans to the Smithsonian.

His children’s books have been called “brilliant” by Dave Pilkey, "thrillingly shameless" by the New York Times, and "guaranteed to fuel read-aloud energy" by Publisher's Weekly.

His unique and beautiful depictions of fish have been featured on the cover of Thomas McGuane’s fly fishing classic, The Longest Silence, in Gray’s Sporting Journal, and are on display at Jimmy Kimmel’s fishing resort, The South Fork Lodge. They also hang in my living room; after we traded risotto for his brook trout painting, we both came out winners in that deal.

Steven and his wife, Casey Scieszka, own and operate the Spruceton Inn: a Catskills Bed and Bar. Their annual Artist Residency has hosted more than 100 artists and counting.

Steven is a creative force of energy, excitement, exploration, and artistic brilliance based right in the heart of the Catskills.
