Catskill Crew Newsletter 🙌

Letter #15

Happy Monday

January 22nd

Events can change, because things happen and I’m not perfect…

Hope everyone had a great weekend and got some snow dumped on them! I am a bit behind today, had to hit the slopes!

We crossed the 1,200+ subscriber mark, so sharing a big welcome to all the newbies that have recently joined and another thank you to the folks that have been here all along.

I have a quick ask before we dive in:

Next week, I’ll hopefully be announcing something BIG…

lil teaser!

If you’re involved with a Catskill-based business of any kind (i.e. restaurant, bar, service, grocer, product, hotel, etc.) please shoot me an email over at [email protected] and mention the Ultra Top Secret Project so I can tell you more about what I’m cooking up and how you can get involved prior to the announcement.

And with that, lets get right into it.

Cheers,

Michael 🫡

James Beard Awards 🧑‍🍳

The 2024 Restaurant and Chef Awards semifinalists have just dropped for the James Beard Awards — and Upstate is being represented by some culinary legends!

But if you don’t know what the James Beard Awards are yet, here is a quick TL;DR.

The James Beard Foundation is a nonprofit organization with a mission to celebrate, support, and elevate the people behind America’s food culture and champion a standard of good food anchored in talent, equity, and sustainability. Established in 1990 and first awarded in 1991, the James Beard Foundation’s Restaurant and Chef Awards are one of five separate recognition programs of the James Beard Awards. The awards recognize exceptional talent and achievement in the culinary arts, hospitality, media, and broader food system, as well as a demonstrated commitment to racial and gender equity, community, sustainability, and a culture where all can thrive. The 2024 Restaurant and Chef semifinalists are recognized across 22 categories.

So who from upstate made the cut? Lets take a look shall we…

Keep it Moving 🏃

I’ve always been a proponent of exercise in any form, and recently had the opportunity to connect with the folks behind Hill 99 and thought it may be of interest to some of you! So, I asked Erica, the mastermind behind the club, to share some words that I can pass on here.

"Have promises slipped through the cracks this year? The Hudson Valley's newest running/walking club, Hill 99, is here to transform aspirations into achievements. Inspired by Hill 99 in Woodstock, they are a not-for-profit community encouraging movement, nature, and connection.

Join them as they challenge each other to achieve something extraordinary 99 times—walk or run at least 99 miles in 2024! They invite individuals to create their own Hill Challenge or Walk the Hill 99 in Woodstock, meeting fellow Hillers. Memberships include a progress-tracking wall calendar, an honorary Hill 99 sticker, and a commemorative pinning ceremony at year-end

They aren't just about numbers; they are also a new community offering monthly meetups both on and off the Hill, socials, and a support group to keep participants inspired. Just walking a mile a day can boost health, and setting and achieving goals is invaluable. Join them in conquering your challenge, one step at a time!

Join Hill 99 Club today at www.Hill99club.com, and let the high-fives begin!"

Remi 🫠

“Remi is a 3 year old female Jack Russell. Remi is a girl who excitedly waits for some adventure! She loves to run around in open fenced in areas and zoom around and she enjoys car rides very much. If you're laying under a blanket, she'll find a way to wiggle under there with you and cuddle you until you both doze off to sleep. She loves attention and once you start petting her, she won't let you stop. Remi would do fine in a home with cats and is selective with dogs. She would do fine in a home with children who can respect her and her belongings. - More pics and info
