Welcome in my friend. It’s a mighty fine day out there — I hope you enjoy this week’s edition and I’ll see ya out there.

THIRD ANNUAL

I come bearing tremendous tidings. After another revolution around the sun, it’s once again time for our Annual July 4th Party at the one and only Deer Mountain Inn.

Last year was a blowout — over 600 folks came out, a few hundred more than we anticipated. This year, we’re capping attendance to keep the barbecue flowin’, drinks line movin’, and oysters shuckin’. So if you to come out, grab a ticket while they’re still available

SHOUT OUT TO PETER HOFFMANN FOR THE PHOTOS.

Crew Members get discounted EIGHT DOLLAR tickets which get you: UNLIMITED BBQ by James Beard Nominee Chef Corwin Kave (while it lasts), there’ll be vinyl tunes, lawn games, a cash bar, an oyster bar, and one of the best mountain views from the lean-to up the trail.

P.S. We made some sweet limited edition and limited quantity bandanas for the event. First come, first serve. I hope to see you there.

PROTECTING THE WILD

A few days ago, I saw a fawn get hit by a car. I sat with her for a few hours hoping she'd get up on her own but it was clear she wasn't going to.

As the sun set and a storm rolled in from the west, I called Friends of the Feathered & Furry Wildlife Center (FFFWC) up in Hunter. Within 30 minutes, I met Dave on the side of the road and passed the fawn into their care.

She's a tough girl, still fighting the good fight, and I'm grateful she's in their hands.

FFFWC is a 501(c)(3) wildlife rehab run by Barbara "Missy" Runyan — a multi-licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator who's been doing this for over 20 years. Bears, owls, foxes, fawns, songbirds, turtles, fisher cats — animals come to her from all over the state.

If you can, please support these great humans and their important mission. 100% of donations go directly to animal care. Donate here.

And save the number for the next time you find an injured feathered or furry neighbor: 518-965-1864.

DINNER CLUB

The Catskill Crew Dinner Club is the best way to meet some friends and hang out with your neighbors — our first one in Saugerties is right around the corner.

HOW IT WORKS:

✦︎ Take a quick quiz about interests, food preferences, and what types of folks you are looking to meet — you know, that kinda thing.
✦︎ Get matched with five other Crew Members based on the result.
✦︎ Receive your invite the morning of the dinner and discover which restaurant your group will be dining at.
✦︎ During dinner, everyone across town will receive a notification with the secret location of an afterparty. This is optional, so if you’re in a food coma, you can go home and sleep it off.

HAPPENINGS

The very first Mushroom Madness event is coming to town and it's going to be a grand time.

The day will be full-on mushroom stuff from morning to night at Hilltown Commons in Rensselaerville — a special place dating back over 100 years. Sprawling across 90 acres, there are trails, beautiful residences, a theatre, a lake, a pub… and a bunch of goats that just kinda follow you around if they get out.

We'll be foraging with John the mycologist from Catskill Fungi, crafting mushroom paper with Roberta from BlueSpruceWandering, enjoying a beer tasting with Return Brewing, jamming to vinyl with DJ Harlan, and enjoying good food from Lil' Piece.

Morel of the story: come on out.
